St. Simon Stock was an English saint who lived in the 13th century. The Blessed Virgin Mary is said to have appeared before him and given him the Carmelite habit, the Brown Scapular. She said to him:
“Receive, my beloved son, this scapular of thy Order; it is the special sign of my favour, which I have obtained for thee and for thy children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be preserved from eternal fire. It is the badge of salvation, a shield in time of danger, and a pledge of special peace and protection."
Following this St Simon Stock founded many Carmelite Communities, and a part of his skull was enshrined at Aylesford in 1950. St Simons Feast Day is May 16th. Picture: Aylesford Priory.
